New hope on Blackpool's Gynn Wall ????

"The Council's Tourism & Regeneration Overview & Scrutiny Committee has agreed to a scutiny which will involve a working group of councillors looking at all aspects of the issue."
Bearing in mind the Council are not stopping us from fishing, we should all write to www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk
explaining the difficulties experienced by our less mobile members...... i.e. heart conditions, dodgy hips etc who are not classified as disabled, but who can't get up the steps and slopes.
It would be good to mention the wives and family who spend the day in the town spending money while you're fishing, and also the money you spend on bait, fishing equipment, food and drinks when you come over from inland.
Even if YOU don't want or like to fish off the wall, getting anglers back on the Gynn Wall will mean more space at Anchorsholme and elsewhere for you.
Come on lads (and lasses), let em have it.

Welldone steve a good post
A working group of councillors looking at all aspects of the issue will hopefully involve a meeting with local anglers those councilors
in that working group should be looking at hard facts ie:- how many reported accidents caused by fisherman with cars has there been in the last 10 years and how many
times have the emergency services been called by local fisherman fishing in that area these are facts that have to be taken into consideration just like the considerations
that where taken when considering the cost of CCTV in the town the eyes and ears of the emergency services extended at no cost to the council only the issuing of permits to the sensible anglers who enjoy fishing. It must also be made clear that if the issuing of permits are working in other parts of the coast then it can work hear in
Blackpool. working groups sounds good but it will depend which councilors are involved in that group if you get 2 or 3 that are against the idea of permits then the line of inquiry for the council will not move for the thousands of fisherman that are attracted hear every year. what we do need is pressure to be put on the working group vir the profile being kept up in the news so the more people that mail the evening gazette the better, it needs everyone on this forum to write then we will have done our bit. hopefully the others will follow suit. Lets see how far we get with this its our future on the line for fishing the wall like we have done for years.
It also may be worth mentioning when people write make it known that they belong to the forum it may get us some press as well http://www.uk-sea-fishing.org

Re: New hope on Blackpool's Gynn Wall ????
thank you so much for posting the update about the gynn wall. i will certainly be in touch with the gazette and putting my point accross. I have missed fishing of the wall this winter!! im not lazy. .... and have been fishing else where, but you cant beat fishing out the back of your car/van and being able to choose where you want to fish and not having to bunch up with every one else and have the comfort of being able to get out of the weather.

Re: New hope on Blackpool's Gynn Wall ????
good news or you would think so but nothing ever happens very fast in the world of council i think they,ll do whatever they can to prolong the parking ban its just the way of the councils ,,but certainly a permit scheme would bring in quite a bit of revenue for them

Re: New hope on Blackpool's Gynn Wall ????
Just a bit of an update!
It looks as though Blackpool Council have reconsidered their position on allowing cars on the Lower Walk.
They've set up a Committee to look into the practicality of setting up a permit system to allow us back on.
Apparently there is a system in operation in another part of the country where they have a swipe card operated barrier system and they think it could work in Blackpool.
It costs about £12 a year to get the card, so all your details are logged and if you're caught speeding, your card is deactivated.
Nothing definite yet, but fingers crossed because I still think it's the best venue on the Fylde coast for safe night-fishing.

I did read on another forum that the fishing will only be allowed an hour each side of high water!!!! I don't know what truth there is in this but it sounds a bit daft if it is the case.

Re: New hope on Blackpool's Gynn Wall ????
I've had many a happy nights fishing off the wall so will send the Gazzet an email.
How does this sound
Mr R ********
Fisherman;
Hi I would like to bring to your attention the parking restrictions on Blackpools Lower Gynn walk way.
From the round about at Gynn Square right up to Bispham has been a favourite spot for anglers from all over the country, not just Blackpool, and I myself have enjoyed many years fishing there.
I'm also a member of several fishing forums that have spent allot of time and dedication finding places where people with disabilities can gain access to fish the sea. However with the parking restricions in place this means that those with mobility issues are expected to park off the main Rd at the top and make the difficult hike down the steep embankment carring their fishing essentials. In most cases this just isn't possible. I have no doubt that soon the council will make the nearby Streets Resident parking only (Those that aren't already) meaning people have to find other more distant spots to park.
Surley in this day and age the authorities can come up with a scheme which will allow genuine anglers to fish..
Kind regards
R R
Thanks for the update Steve.

looking good, but you might want to add that although it is a public access / pedesrtrian area it is totaly unlit at night and is very dark ( pitch black ) and can be a dangerous / threatening place for people walking and that with us there with our cars we can offer a safe haven to anyone who feels threatened by any of the junkies and drunks that prowl the walk looking to mug the pedestrians and that the only vehicle seen down there nowadays is the council vehicle driving along checking that the cars that are on the walk have their blue badges
or things along those lines

Spoke to Mark, who is organising the campaign to get us back onto the lower walk last night (20.11.10.) although I had read what he said on another site he told me that Blackpool North MP (forgot his name) is demanding Cllr Callow to reverse the decision to stop us. Things seem to be moving in the right direction. Here's hoping.......
