new to sea fishing

Post  daddycool on Tue Mar 17, 2009 10:50 am

Hi all am new to the sport after inheriting a rod and reel from my dad. It is a Comorant 9ft Beachcaster. Would this be ok to use from a pier for spinning or would I need a proper spinning rod for this

Welcome m8,

Why don't you look at my reply to another newbie (tootsieroll) as it applies equally to you.

Yes, you can use a 9' beachcaster to spin off a pier if that's all you've got, but is that what the locals are doing?
More than likely an old reel, load with 15lb line and a worm-loaded 3 hook paternoster will catch flatties year round off a pier.

Go and talk to people fishing where you'd like to fish................ they might not be as fearsome and unapproachable as you think. Sad
(you wanna see some of them I fish with Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes )

Best of luck, and tight lines

Steve
