How about here later in the year?
How about considering this location.
This is the picknick/toilet block and parking area, just west of Greenod. The A590 is just visible at the top of the picture. There is ample parking, benches and tables for eating/barbeques and the fishing is just a few steps from the parking area. If you fancy making a full day of it the village of Greenod is less than a mile away and boasts good eating public houses.

Yes, I know what you mean Jonty. I can't offer any reason why, but it does produce some very good sized Flounder. 2lb are pretty common and 3lb far from exceptional. A 20 to 50 yard casts puts your bait in the feeding zone, and, from Mid April through to early December some good catches are made. Early season, crab is the killer bait giving way as summer progresses to worm, either rag or Lug, often tipped with either prawn or Mackeral. I've seen a number of matches here won with 20lb plus bags. In fact I've seen matches lost with 20lb plus bags!

I'd suggest September, October or early November. The fish will have had all summer from spawning to pile weight on.

Good call Tomcat Greenod is a great place for flounder, you just need a decent tide to bring enough water in. It can get busy though as it is a popular spot for fishing.

Re: How about here later in the year?
Any idea why this particular spot produces such a good size of fish? I can't see any reason why this should be the case. It looks no different to many other venues but still stands out due the quality of the Flounder. I'm stuck for any suggestion why??
