Terrific photos mikey cheers
I can remember when it was possible to catch Cod like that from Rossall Point off the beach......... I guess that qualifies me as old Sad

Just for the record books, the national shore caught record is 44.5lb - North West record 40.5lb from Whitehaven Pier.
National boat caught record is 58lb 6oz (Whitby) - North-West record 42lb from off Rossall.
There have been reports that Cod up to 300lb were regularly caught by trawlers off Iceland.

We're probably never going to see those records broken in many lifetimes, if ever.
Sad init? Crying or Very sad

Not a clue about the others, but the 58lb'er was caught from a boat off Whitby in 1992.
Who can come up with the answers?

Not too sure about the shore fish. But, the boat record was caught about 300 yards away from my own boat in the early eighties. Caught by Ted Peak on his own small boat less than a mile off Rossall beach. I caught one of 19lbs the same day, which I thought was a big fish until I saw Teds fish. It was like a pig with fins. Ted later went on to skipper the charter boat 'Wandering Star' from Fleetwood. It was probably 82-83 or 84, early December on a bitterly cold day during a long cold snap.

Proof that the UK could, in the past, produce big Cod. These weighed in at 34lb and 35lb. I'm on the left. I had the 34lb fish together with a 21lb and 14lb fish on the same drop! After that I cut the trace lures off and just used the pirk!

I have loads (mostly b&w and sepia), maybe Chris would consider a section specifically for angling piccies. Rolling Eyes
