hope to be going down tomorrow to see if possible forum meet,
meeting a young lad that had asked for some help as he new to fishing so mark going to help him.
think the breakwater would be brill place but think have to be a club to use, but also smaller breakwater we going to look at tomorrow.

Well what a horrid day wet windy cold and misty We got soaked hehehehehehe

hi yeah can be fished in and out evidently it can be bery good off breakwater but still trying to find out where get permission to us that, think got to be a club fish will let you know when i find out, the small pier is ok to use would think wrass,pollock etc just got to be aware rocks down at end where mark fishing extreamly slippery when wet, i nearly went arse over tip hehehehehe

Fishguard Breakwater is a considerable structure that both creates and protects the famous ferry port of Fishguard. The northern facing seaward side of the structure comprises of thousands upon thousands of enormous great concrete blocks the size of the average domestic dining room which have been haphazardly placed to protect the main breakwater from the ravages of winter gales. Casting from these blocks gives easy access into deep kelp filled water that teems with fish notably pollack and wrasse along with conger dogfish whiting pouting and mackerel depending on season.



However this is only one aspect of the various options on offer when fishing at Fishguard Breakwater which is undoubtedly one of the premier destinations in the country for the species hunter. Where else after all could you possibly hope to hook such mouth watering rarities as a Connemara cling fish or that most elusive of flatfish the topknot?



If indeed it is something unusual you want to catch then you will need to concentrate on fishing the gaps and holes between the concrete blocks carefully lowering your baits into the dark and mysterious pools of water that rarely if ever see sunlight. Tackle for species hunting should be along the lines of a two or three hook paternoster rig incorporating Size 12 Mustad Ref: 39838A hooks terminating with a small American snap link to clip on a 1/2 to 1oz lead weight. Best baits are tiny pieces of rag or cuts of mackerel mounted so as to make sure the hook point was fully exposed and not in any way mask the bait.

There is decent fishing available here for twelve months of the year though spring and autumn are the best times. The optimum time to fish is during the flood and over high water particularly at night. The outside of the venue is exposed to northerly winds. Fishing the harbour side of the breakwater can be productive for dogfish conger and eel. Not a suitable venue for disabled anglers or unaccompanied juniors all anglers should take great care when fishing at Fishguard Breakwater especially after rain when the blocks are extremely slippery.



If you want to fish at Fishguard breakwater access is restricted and strictly controlled. Any club can apply to run a competition on the breakwater with a nominal fee charged per angler with all proceeds going to charity.

to use the breakwater at goodwick we have to be an affiliated fishing club with Club insurance
and then a donation to charity of about 3/4£ for each angler
so dont know what people think about setting ourselves up as a fishing club? and enquiring as to how much insurance would be?

the nfsa has been replaced by the angling trust (the one voice of angling )membership for clubs is £100 51-200 members or 20 quid for individuals
