Re: QUESTION???????

Post  oldgreyfox on Fri May 08, 2009 12:44 am

I went to Shell island in August last year , if its still the same theres no advanced bookings . The site is very basic only one shower block (only one shower working while I was there) , toilets are portaloo`s scatered around the site but for seven quid a night you cant moan . The top end of the site where the shop , chippy and bar are was really crowded (shame as it looked like a really good spot for a bit of float fishing for mullet). I pitched about as far south as I could , no ristrictions on where you can camp but you have to be 30 feet away from any neighouring tent . Bagged a couple of 3lb bass on a dawn tide from the beach , but couldnt fish where I wanted to because of kids and boats during the day . Ease of access to the beach really depends on where you pitch your tent but will almost certainly involve getting over the sand dunes , the further south you pitch the bigger the dunes . Unless you go at the height of the summer season (like I did) theres masses space on the site and the beach .

Andy

PS
I also discovered that at the south end of the site is a nudist beach .....no need for dappers to bring his telephoto lenes affraid

SHELL ISLAND JULY

Post  kingfisher on Fri May 08, 2009 10:26 am

as no booking needed, no reason why cant go over weekend for those that can,
look at site for tides etc think the end of the week we plan there is better tides the previous weekend are lower, some might go for whole week some couple of days
unless things change this end i cant do weekend but i am sure we will get to meet up with some in passing
camping £7 each
north side pier and slip disabled friendly can catch bass, doggies, flounder from there
need radar key for disabled loo and shower
if we camping in group dont need to adhere to the 20metre rule
kayaks welcome lol
will try to find out answers to any other questions
