I prefer Blondes

Post  Davey on Sat May 07, 2011 12:29 pm

The weather forecast for Friday didn't look good, with heavy rain coming in, but undaunted Mick and I were set up at Chale by 7.00pm. Gone were the blue skies and warm sunshine of late, to be replaced with dark clouds, strong wind and a rough sea, but the sea was a good colour.

Sandeel on one rod on a clip down rig cast at distance, the other mackeral chunks in hope of a Bass. Mick had a cracking bite first cast but missed it, so that looked promsing.
After a while I replaced the mackeral with crab, looking for an early smoothound, and within 5 minutes of casting it out I had this small common of 3lb 3oz in .

We had nothig else till gone Dark when I had a doggie and Mick had a Pout.
There was thunder and Lightening on the horizon and it was heading our way.
Eventually it was overheard and we decided to bring the rods in and lay them flat on the beach, to avoid being struck.
We sat it out in my beach buddy for an hour, it was a spectacular site with forked lightening all around.
Eventually the worst was over so back to fishing, Mick again had a cracking bite but dropped the fish on the way in, another good fish lost.

Just gone 11pm and I started getting a nodding on one rod, another bloody doggie I thought, I struck and hit something solid, a snag I thought, all for 5 seconds when the fish pulled back and almost pulled me down the beach.
After a cracking fight some hairy moments trying to land it in the surf, and some expert gilleying by Mick, a big ray was beached, but not any Ray but a Blonde, a rare catch from the beach, and a corker it was weighing 15lb 10oz.

Photos taken I slipped her back into the surf and she dissapeared back into the murky depths.

We fished on till 4am I managed 3 more doggies, and Mick manged to dropped at least another two good fish on the way in, not his night.

The rain was back and with the tide ebbing we called it a night.
