5 Barred gate , New Years eve - New Years morning. 2010 -2011

Well decided to have a look at fishing low down and back up as just couldn,t be bothered with mixing with p*****d idiots or watching c**p tv. And I needed to get rid of all the old bait out of the freezer.
Got there at 10pm and hit the beach. tide was already well on its way out and I could see the double breakers marking the first gulley line so rigged up a three hook clip down with size 1 hooks with a selection of baits and cast out over the 2nd set of white water.
Nothing for the first 30mins so waded across the 1st gulley as it was only about 18inchs deep and rebaited and cast again aiming to get into the 2nd gulley where the rocks are.
Just as all the fireworks went off started getting some good rattles then a couple of big knocks followed by a slack liner, yay cod bite the first of the new year.... not !! ...2 envelope sized dabs..... a**e!!
Released the little gits so they could go and grow bigger and then watched the fireworks and chinese lanterns until the 2nd gulley was shallow enough to wade across then got back to the important work of trying to catch something decent.
Nowt happened after that , changed baits every 20mins over low and on the way back up and got wet feet wading back over the 2nd gulley after the tide turned so packed up at 3,30am.
Not my best low water session there but not my worst, and at least I,ve not started the New Year with a blank.

Good to hear you got out at last Mike, I fished there a few weeks ago and it was the good old dab that was being caught. Good report, all the best for the New Year hope to catch up with you this year sometime.

Its my first time out for 6 months due to having birsitis in both shoulders now. I,ve been using the 10% Ibuleve cream on them for a couple of weeks and wasn,t having much pain so decided to try the Triads out. It was a bit of a mistake I think as the last 3 casts I did my right arm kept going into spasms which made controlling the multis a bit difficult, but managed without birdi-ing.
My right shoulder is still giving me pain now, so it looks like I might have to downgrade to the bass rods or plugging rods for a bit.
