A cold night

Post  Davey on Sun Nov 28, 2010 9:39 am

Well finally the weather was calm on Friday evening, after all the rough weather we'd had lately, this was what I'd been waiting for.
So after picking Nick up at 6pm we arrived at the cliff top at Dutchmans, unfortunately in the dark we missed the route down, I managed to work my way along the almost sheer cliff and get down. Nick decided to climb back up and come down the right route.
Time he got down I was set up and fishing, he'd had a mishap on the way up and manged to get stuck in mud up to his knees.LOL
Anyway on to the fishing, I set up running ledgers with Pennel and either whole Squid or large chunks of Mackerel or bluey. The sea was calm and with thick cloud cover it was very dark. Dutchmans is a big fish venue, with deep water within casting range, and it looked perfect for a conger.
Things were quiet with just the odd Pout rattling the rod.Around midnight I get the first decent take and in came a nice Pollack of 1lb 12oz.

Finally something was happening, maybe the fish were coming on the feed, but alas it went quiet again.
By 2.30am we were both cold and I was thinking of calling it a night when the rod went again and in came an almost identical Pollack this one going 1lb 7oz.

We packed up after that and took the long climb back up, this time the right route and got back to the van just in time for the snow to start.

Couple of fish for our efforts, Nick getting a couple of pout as well, but the Island is very quiet at the moment, just hope next year is better.
