Hound fest

Post  Davey on Sun Oct 31, 2010 4:21 pm

Friday evening despite the heavy rain I was determined to get out.
I had 3 venues in mind and hopefully a fish filled report to post, I was not to be disappointed.
Arrived at my 1st venue and was set up by 6.30pm. Sole and Bass were my target, so a sole rig with size 4 hooks and ragworm on one rod and the other whole squid on a pennel on the other.
After 4 hours fishing in the pouring rain there was no sign of either quarry, so it was time to move.
Arrived at my 2nd venue and was set up again just gone 11pm, Flounder and Bass again were the targets, so similar rigs though replacing the size 4 hooks too size 2.
Half hour and I get a good pull on the worm, I was hoping for a Flounder but a baby smut came in.

Well at least it was a fish, the rain had finally stopped by now, the bites started to come quicker now with baby smut after another, even taking whole Squid, so 2 hours of this I'd had enough so moved again, another spot 10 minutes away which has produce good Bass for me in the past. I was soon set up again and almost straight away a bite and a school Bass of a pound, thats better I thought, then they started to come thick and fast, not the Bass but the bloody baby smuts.
So I moved again heading towards puckpool where I'd heard small codling had been caught, and once again was attacked by more smuts, Although I did manage another Schoolie.
Well it was a fish filled night just not what I was after.
Lost count of how many but over 20 of the bloody things, I'd even would have been happy catching a pout for something different but alas it wasn't to be.
Finally I'd had enough by 5am and called it a night.

Good Report Davey as usual with great pics

As for the Doggies up here i have found out ( or so i was told by a fellow fisherman so cannot prove if its true or not ) how they came so abundant on the NW Coast? a few years ago the SeaLife centre at Blackpool had a glut of young doggies so they released the pups into the sea, since then they have taken over where they was once very rare!
