there is a report in the sun this morning about the weever with the weather warming they are hitting our shores please takecare jonty

Please be careful got over 20 of the buggers on pier last week. Makes me cringe when I see families letting their kids run round and paddling with bare feet on the beach 
Anyway if you do get stung the recomended treatment is to imerse the stung area in water as hot as you can stand for as long as you can as the heat nutralises the poison As I said be careful out there boys and girls

ps anyone got a good clear image it might be worth posting as some members might not have seen one yet pps pedantic I know but its actualy "WEEVER" might help in searches cheers

Here's the little devil. Usually between 3" to 6" long. It's the 3 spined fin just to the rear of the head facing upwards that carriy the venom.

Havnt seen the article yet but gonna look later but im led to believe it was spelt wrong in paper thanks for the image Tomcat I believe the gill covers also carry the poison ?

easiest ID is to look at its tail while its still on the hook, if it has a large black dot, its a weever, saves the counting of the spines and all that, the ones around here have a big black dot about the size of a 5p on their tail

Hi, got stung on the thumb with one of the little buggers a couple years back on blackpool pier! was like a nasty bee sting for about 15 mins, would,nt like to see a kid stung with one!! And no I did'nt cry! Mike
