Recycle Frozen Lug Worm

Post  jazzman on Wed Apr 07, 2010 4:22 pm

Hi Guys
I just thought i would post a little of what i do with defrosted lug. When you go out with frozen lug and you have fished do you
throw the left overs in the sea or do you take them home to recycle for those who have to pay for bait it can get costly if you throw
away frozen bait so ive come up with a tip of how to recycle your lug worm after a fish. the photo below shows they don't look very good
for another fish but you can revamp them to look good to a fish.

Items:-
1. Bait Needle ( shown in photo below )
2. Bait Elastic ( shown in photo below )

(a) Take three of the lug worm and thread the bait needle through the first of the lug worm ( Photo)

(b) Take the other two worms and bunch them together with the one on the bait needle ( Photo )

(c) Take the bait elastic and wrap it around the three lug worm untill you get to the bottom and you should end up with
something that looks like a sausage or what is called a (kebab) the more frozen you have left the more you can make and
you can please yourself how many worm you want to wrap together. i like to do these for the bigger fish in theory the small
fish cannot touch this bait because of it's size but then would attract a bigger fish whilst trying. leave the kebab to dry on
some kitchen roll then Wrap the kebab in paper and freeze as normal and you have a large bait for your next fish.
The Bass should be close to showing near us at the end of this month so its worth making some. (photo )

Use your bait needle to thread the bait on the hook and use a tip of squid or prawn it works for me so give it a go use two rods
and put the bigger bait and cast further out then use your fresh bait close in. The bigger bait i like to use with a pennal rig using
the two hooks to keep the bait stretched along the snood but remember tip both hooks.

Let me know your results of what you catch

cheers Ron

I used to make mussel kebabs by threading a load onto wooden sticks then tying them up the same way before freezing.
The thing that got on my nerves though was removing the old bait as every strand of the bait elastic seemed to catch the hook barb. I suppose a small pair of nail scissors in the pocket might have helped!

Great idea for using up those worms Ron Rolling Eyes

yep they are good for boat fishin but equally as good from the shore and can catch some bigger fish i caught two bass on these
the down side is like steve says the elastic it might be a bit fiddly changing bait but i can be worth it.

other people may say you don't need big bait to catch big fish but i say it helps and saves money or work pumping
just made another 12 tonight ill be ready for the bass when they get here fish

If we can lets set up an experiment with this bait to see how it goes.

Steve said about the mussel kebab yes another big useful bait in fact mussel is one of the only baits that keep it's cent when
defrosted better than any other bait by using bait elastic it should support the bait when defrosted enabling you to thread it
on the hook without it falling apart two good tips for bait preparation.

I don't profess to be an expert on bait but it's good to experiment because if you don't try you never know you could just
miss out on that bigger fish you've been waiting for or any fish we always wait for

Whilst where on the subject of bait can i ask any coarse fishing guys tell us why they use sweetcorn ?
is it used as a cent or an attractor. If it is an attractor whilst the place are in has anyone tried putting
a couple of sweetcorn as a tip on top of the lug instead of using millions of beads. just a thought
