A large proportion of sea anglers start their careers at the end of local pier. Yet, many never achieve the catches they should from these structures, simply because they fail to understand the basics and develop in built mistakes that cost them fish. Those same mistakes can last a lifetime.

There are plenty of piers spread throughout the UK, and it's worth taking the trouble to learn something about pier techniques that allow you to take full advantage of them when the opportunity arises. ...

Most beach anglers have the idea that shore turbot are rare. Those caught being lucky fish. Certainly, luck plays a part in the size of the turbot you catch, but turbot within shore casting range are definitely not rare. A few anglers do target these fish from the beaches and do extremely well with double figure fish very much on the cards.

WHERE TO EXPECT TURBOT

Turbot are found right around the UK. Like most fish though, certain areas are better than others. Chesil Beach in Dorset turns ...

The best way to make silicone washers for the Alvey Slim Bore bait pump:

Grab a 78g tube of Geocel Aquarium Sealant, about £4.50 but this will make about 10 x 10mm washers.

Carefully cut the top end off, wet your finger and smooth the silicone flat

Leave it for a week or so, turn the tube upside down, then cut the other end off and smooth the silicone flat.

Now put it somewhere warm where it can set through. Mine usually takes about six months, but even before that I can start ...

What is wreck fishing?

Wreck fishing is when you fish over sunken wrecks. The wrecks can be anything from boats to submarines that lay at depths from 70 to 300 feet on the seas bottom. The wrecks can be from the first / second world war or general lost at sea boats. There size varies from 20 feet to over 250 feet long.

Wrecks can be anything from just a mile offshore to 35 / 40 miles offshore, which can mean that it will take several hours steaming to get to the chosen wrecks.
