Back in January this year, H4ppy-Chris bought a boat and trailer, towed it home from Hull and parked it up outside his house:

There it's sat for several months while Chris researched all the work to be done to refurb it ....... not just the physical work, but the expense of it all. He started buying ....... glass fibre, resin, paint, trailer parts, fenders etc. etc. and Tomcat's words that "a boat is an expensive hole in the water" rang true.

A date for all diaries:

MEERKAT will be launched from Knott End slipway on Saturday 7th November 2009.......weather permitting.

We've taken the decision that even though it's unlikely to be 100% fitted out, we're going to put Meerkat on the water. She'll be water tight, painted and polished, but the finishing off we'll complete after the first sea-trial.

The plan is to run her around to one of the Fleetwood or Cleveleys beaches, so it would be great to see as many of our forum ...

Tomorrow morning Scooby2 (Andy) and I, set out from Knott End into Morecambe Bay and across to Walney in pursuit of some good fishing.
Just stimulating a debate...... and not a war!

Do you boat owners sometimes want to get out, but are frustrated because your regular buddies can't make the trip and launching would be difficult, even possibly dangerous going to sea solo?

Would you consider posting opportunities in this section for those of us who are beach-bound to join you, on the understanding we'd contribute towards your costs and do our share of the work?

Personally I'd be happy to pay £20-£30 for a half-days ...

I found this site, handy for monitoring surface water temperature. http://cobs.pol.ac.uk/cobs/sat/

Female Tope enter our inshore waters off Lancashire when sea temp reaches about 10c and the packs of male Tope around 11c. This situation is created by nature to prevent the packs of male Tope from eating the young pups early in the season. The mackeral usually require 11.5c and settled conditions before they invade our inshore waters. Leaving an early season void for quality bait for Tope and ...

Why is it that safety at sea seems to come second in a lot of small boat owners considerations? I spend a lot of time around my local harbour and its unbeleavable the amount of boats i see setting of for a days fishing or a bit of pleasure crusing with kids onboard without the site of a single life jacket or boyancy aid in site a lot dont even have a vhf radio or flares onboard either, is life not worth a few quid getting the right safety equiptment and making sure the you and every one is safe ...
