Friday evening after picking Nick up from Chale we met up with Lighty at the car park at Brighstone our chosen venue, but after a quick chat decided, last minute to fish Chale.

By 7pm we had done the slightly slippery climb down and was set up.

One rod was set up with a clip down pennel and bait was either sandeel, squid, mackeral or bluey at distance, the other was a classic running ledger, 6/0 with large lumps of mackeral fished close in.

We fished the tide up till high at 3am ...

Friday 13th, unlucky for some .

Met up with Lighty at 6pm and we were fishing one of his spots, I hadn't fished here before. Nice stretch of beach with clear ground alongside a reef stretching from the beach out to sea.

I set up 30 yards away and Lighty opted to fish alongside the reef.

I started with a clip down at distance for hopefully an Undulate Ray and close in with a flapper and strips of mackeral for a Turbot or Pout for bait.

At dusk just after casting the flapper rod out return ...

Monday evening and the wife was sat watching her soaps, so grabbing a packet of sandeels and blueys I went off to Yaverland for a short session in search of an Undulate which I need for the species count.

I was set up by 9pm the tide was well on its way out but have found that low water is a good time to fish, so a clip down rig with sandeel went out distance and strips of bluey on a flapper on the other rod for a turbot or Brill.

By 12.20am I was contemplating going home, apart from 2 little ...

Saturdays weather forecast was good, light winds and clear skies, unfortunately had promised the wife we'd go out Sunday, so I had to go fishing Friday night, the weather was slightly different, wet and windy!

Met Lighty at Chale car park and we went to the cliff top to have a look before committing to the climb down.

Well it was rough as a badgers backside, very windy with some weed in the surf, but looked Bassy, so we decided to give it a go.

We were set up by 6pm, despite the wind ...

So decided to have a few hours to use them, but where to go, the beaches are full of holiday makers, so decided on Chale.

Got to the top of the cliffs looked down and the sea was literally boiling with mackeral.

Was set up by 5pm, one rod went out with a flapper and worm, the second mackeral feathers, 2nd cast and I had one another fish for the specie list.

I was Billy no mates this weekend with everyone backng out last minute.

Had planned to fish Alum Bay, but with showers forecast didn't fancy the climb down or up, so where to go?

There was a stiff wsw wind blowing, I could fish the eastern end of the Island to get out of the wind, but reports were poor with only small bream etc, so opted to try Colwell Bay again the western end with the wind coming straight in off the sea. Finally it was 8pm Mick came round and we were off, after picking crab and worm up on the way we were at Gurnard just before 9pm, Micks cousin was already there and as we set up we were joined by Lighty.

High water was at 22.43 so we would be fishing most of the night on the ebb, which at this venue is perfect especially for the Sole.

After checking the weather on 4 sites all saying a dry night, I picked Nick up at 6.30pm Friday. We got to whale Chine carpark and walked to the cliff top to see what the surf was like.

Didn't look to bad so we took the long climb down and was set up just gone 7pm, within the hour the sea had turned really rough with waves breaking a good 6 foot and even more worrying ...

Picking Nick up at 6.30pm Friday we were set up at Atherfield by 7pm. A known mark for Bass and conger I was going to be using big baits all night.

Took the usual photos of the beach and glorious sunset for what hopefully would be a fish filled report.

As the sun set and dusk fell I get the first interest, a couple of rattles on the head and half the body of a Bluey, then the rod flies round and I strike, didn't even feel the fish, how it wasn't hooked I'll never know, but it ...

Friday evening and with calm conditions and no rain, for once, it was time for a go at Chale to see if the Rays were in yet. Picked Nick up at 6.30pm and arrived at the carpark and then it was the steep climb down the cliff.

Safely down we walked along the beach to find 3 mates already set up in our spot so we settled down along side them.

We had sandeel, squid, Mackerel and worm for bait, one rod with a clip down rig and sandeel would go out at distance for the ray and the other ...

Friday evening, after picking up some mackerel and a pound of worm I was back off to Seaview in search of those Bass.

Had trouble finding a parking space so had to park a fair distance after walking down to the beach and setting up realised I'd left the bait in the van. So after walking back to collect it, I cast out just gone 7pm, just as the 1st spots of rain started, it continued for 3hours,heavy, soaked and with only a schoolie to show for my efforts, I decided to move to Cowes in search ...

After the previous nights success, I was back down the beach just gone 4pm, spent an hour digging some fresh Lugworm and was set up just before 6pm. Same tactics, 2 hook flappers with strong 2/0 hooks and Ragworm and Lugworm as bait.

After a couple of little rattles during the light, darkness finally arrived and I was ready for a hectic few hours.

But conditions were different, it was clear skies and the moon was bloody bright.

Finally around 9pm I got the typical pull round and a Bass was ...

Then it started to rain, heavy showers and frequent. One rod would have a 2hook flapper with Ragworm as bait, the other would be a clip down 3/0 with either sandeel, crab or squid.

Friday and it was pouring with rain, I didn't fancy digging worm in it, or sitting Bassing at my usual spot as its an exposed beach. So after collecting Mackerel, squid and sandeel from Barneys at Cowes I was setup on the beach at Cowes by 7.00pm.

One rod had a 2 hook flapper with mackerel and squid strips in the hope of small stuff cast about 50 yards, the 2nd rod was a clip down with sandeel cast at distance looking for a ray. Cowes is a reasonably deep venue where almost anything can turn ...

The wife was working late Tuesday so thought I'd use up the worm left over from Sunday.Had 3 hours so went local, east Cowes by the old castle.

Its deeper water here and theres always a small chance of a Ray, so one rod went out with sandeel and the other rag.

After 10 minutes the rods were bent double with weed wound in and all the bait was gone. Bloody crabs.

So moved further down the beach, a lot shallower but less weed or crabs.

Well despite lots of small rattles all I could ...

The wife was out to Bingo Sunday evening so

after picking up half pound of Ragworm and a packet of Sandeels I was

set up at Yaverland in search of an early Ray.

Size 1/0 2 hook flapper with ragworm was on one rod and a clip down rig cast at distance with sandeel on the other.

Darkness arrived and I started getting a few rattles on the worm, but

couldn't connect so eventually I changed the hook size going down to

size 2. Finally I managed a poor cod.

And a while later ...

Friday was a long time coming, I was itching to get back down after the previous weekends success.

Arrived at 4.30pm dug some lugworm and already had rag. The normal 2 hook flappers would be used.

I was set up by dusk an was hopefull of another good session.

Darkness arrived but unfortunately the Bass didn't.

8pm and I get my 1st bite, a little rattle so I strike and in comes a Flounder around the pound mark.

Carried

High water was at 2.30am Saturday, so the plan was to fish the last hour of the ebb and the tide up till midnight, then move around the headland to the other mark, where I had the 2 schoolies the week before and fish till the 1st of the ebb.
